New year, new opportunities!

Wow, 2009 went by fast! It is hard to imagine that the year 2000 was 10 years ago.. We had a huge winter storm in the desert last weekend, that was much needed. Tornadoes, floods, hail, wind, 4-5 feet of snow up north, it was awesome! The only downside, is with all this rain, grass painting has been put on hold for the last week here in AZ. But no worries, the sun WILL be back. It is a novelty to get rain here and I enjoy it!

Other news..

We are in the process of possibly changing our 2.5 gallon size jugs to pails, with a pour spout. Many seem to like that pail; easier to control the pour and easier to carry. We also moved our shop last week to a bigger space at new location. It is funny how you think something will only take 2-3 days, and it always ends up doubling that. Everything went well, just took a little longer.

I wish all of you luck in 2010, and paint a lot of lawns green!

Sincerely,

Ben

Dormant Season is here..

We have been busy all across the south with people interested in getting into grass painting. We have seen a huge increase in interest vs. last winter. The idea of grass painting is making its way to the public, and this is great news for grass painting companies. For those of you who have already taken the step into the business, I hope all is going well for you!

I have been enjoying the Holidays, and Christmas is creeping up way to fast though.

Happy Holidays to you!

Tip of the day!!

Who to market to:
  • Home staging companies- We have been spending some time cold calling home staging companies, and have had a good response to the idea of them offering grass painting. If you do a google search for home staging, (enter your state) you will find a long list of these companies. Basically their job is to prepare homes for the market. Many of them have been open to the idea of also painting the grass green! Also, we have been getting many calls from these companies recently looking for a grass painter. Many of these companies "hire" out most of the work that needs to be done. We have been referring them to our list of preferred painters. If you start a grass painting company, or already have one, we would love to add you to our site!
  • So get on the phone, and good luck! Their is a ton of potential in this area. I would love to hear from you on your successes and especially if you have questions about grass painting.
More to come..

Sincerely,
Ben

How to market your grass painting business.

Thinking about starting a lawn painting business? Great choice! Already have a business setup, and want to market it? I have a few tips and ideas..
  • Realtors- with so many foreclosed homes on the market, brown lawns are everywhere. Most of these homes are vacant and the water and power is disconnected. A real way for realtors to gain an edge is to have the home looking presentable, and green grass is one proven method when it comes to curb appeal. Realtors can be hard to get in touch with. One effective way to contact them is to find a main office where their are several realtors working out of one location. If they have grass outside the building, ask if you can spray a small patch near the front door. This will standout and allow realtors to see this every time they come to the office! Also, then put a yard sign with your info, or a stack of flyers at the front desk, so they know who to contact once they see the great looking green patch of grass outside.
  • Home stagers: these are companies that prepare homes for market. They come in and paint, cleanup, and do the landscaping. These would be excellent companies to solicit your services too. Their is one such company that called me a month ago looking for a grass painter to do that to all of their properties. The grass painting company I referred them too off our website (our preferred vendor list), now is painting about 2-5 lawns a week for this company. And that is only ONE company!! Their is a ton of opportunity out their..
I will post more soon! If you have had ways that are effective I would love to hear them. We all need to help each other, and this industry will thrive for all.

Sincerely,

Ben Forstie

Grass painting news!

Well it has been almost a year since we have been selling our grass paint, and it has been a fun ride so far. When we first got into this business their was about 5-10 grass paint company websites online, and now their are several hundred! It is an exciting industry to be a part of. The day to day communications with customers/prospects is so exciting because anyone who is thinking of getting into grass painting is excited. It makes it a lot of fun to discuss the basics to people just getting into this business. Their is so much potential. The biggest challenge in the beginning was the lack of public knowledge on grass painting. Public awareness is growing by leaps and bounds with so many new companies forming daily. At this stage of the game, competition is a good thing. The more people get into it and realize an opportunity, the more the public will become aware of this option to over-seeding in the winter, and an option to reduce watering by as much as 50%. With so many water shortages around the country it is tough for residents in certain areas to keep the grass green. For example: in Florida their are several areas that can only water ONCE a week, for 15 minutes. It is impossible to have a beautiful green lawn with so little water. Grass painting is a great supplement for these areas.

What part of the country do you live in? And do you see the problem of brown lawns due to water restrictions, drought, etc.? If you have any questions, please ask them and I will do my best to answer them.

Sincerely,

Ben Forstie
